Pollock lived both roles to the extreme, dying drunk at age 44 after crashing his Oldsmobile convertible into a tree one humid summer night in 1954. As both the film's director and leading man, Harris avoids a simplistic rendering of Pollock the tortured paint-slinger.
He plays Pollock at work in his tiny Long Island studio, deftly capturing the muscular, dancing sense of movement that animates his best-known paintings. Some of the most riveting passages of the film are Harris slathering skeins of rich color, dipped fresh from cans of house paint, onto canvases stretched out on the floor. The film also spins a love story, fraught with anger and passion, with electric chemistry generated by Harris and Marcia Gay Harden, who plays Pollock's wife, the painter Lee Krasner. But even if you've never caught the animated series, chances are you (and your children, of course) will enjoy the whimsical, engaging kids-as-heroes story that creators Paul Germain and Joe Ansolabehere have devised. The improbable plot involves a plan by the Third Street School's ousted ex-principal, Philliam Benedict (James Woods), to yank the moon from its orbit, instantly turning the Earth cold and eliminating summer vacation, so as to keep kids in school at all times and raise test scores. The kids become the heroes, naturally, though in the course of whupping the bad guys they discover that their school's current leader, Principal Prickly (Dabney Coleman), and a teacher who lives to hassle them, Ms.

With an overlong exposition, too many nudging jokes that only parents or guardians would understand, and a confusing plot, "Rugrats" seems to leave most of its younger viewers mildly amused, and some of them bewildered and upset.

Equal parts Willy Wonka and Dali, the movie's eye-popping visuals and exciting action sequences are counterbalanced with a strong moral lesson about the importance of family.
A perfect Saturday matinee movie. Rodriguez (mock violence). 89 minutes. 13 Days (PG-13) 1962's tense sta- redown between the U.S. and the Soviet Union over the Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba was a strategic war waged largely in meeting rooms and conference calls, but one of the surprising things about this drama is how dynamic it all feels anyway.
Kevin Costner stars as presidential aide Kenneth P. O'Donnell, and even though the story is told through his eyes, the film's main appeal hinges on our eternal national fascination with John F. Kennedy (Bruce Greenwood) and his brother Robert (Steven Culp), who were able to remain true to their instincts and judgment under near-unbearable pressure. 3000 Miles to Graceland (R) A stylish if supremely violent. exercise in deeply determined weirdness, typified by Kevin Costner's character, a muttonchopped murdering sociopath who may or may not be the illegitimate son of The King, the one who expired on a porcelain throne in the mansion referenced in the movie title. This is a caper I movie in the swaggering spirit of "Reservoir Dogs" and "True Romance" with Costner and Kurt Russell a couple of tough guy robbers trying to get away with the loot from a casino robbery. Not everything works but Costner makes a good bad guy and there's enough visual flash and thumping music to make it an oddly entertaining ride. The Tailor of Panama (R) In this adaptation of John le bestseller, Pierce Brosnan doodles on his James Bond persona to play a morally reprehensible British spy sent to Panama to dig up dirt on the handover of the Panama Canal. He hits the motherlode when he meets a tailor (Geoffrey Rush) whose starstudded client list makes him privy to all kinds of information. Except the tailor also happens to be a monumental liar. At once a dry comedy, a political satire and an earnest character drama, the movie can't quite juggle its various tones successfully.
